Potholes to heaven
When it comes to surprises and celebrations, I am a 'typical' girl. I love them all. Be it b'days, anniversaries or just a regular day, I enjoy being treated special. So wen we (my husband and I) rocked and rolled through 2 years of marital bliss, we decided to celebrate it with a trip. The arguments started with the choice of place: from Goa to Andamans to Lakshadweep... we finally settled for Kodaikanal (my earlier 2 attempts to visit the place went kaput).
My friend had told me the Must Dos: cycle around the lake, grab yummy momos from some nameless lil Tibetan eatery, and my Must Do included having the bright pink-coloured candy and buying those bright yellow ever-famous everlasting flowers for my mom.
Armed with jackets and sunglasses, we left. Half way into the drive and down we went, into what the Kerala govt may call 'kuzhi' (pothole) but it was more a 'kinar' (well). And then it was a roller-coaster drive until we reached Anamalai (the Tamil Nadu border). The minute we crossed that barricade which read (Welcome to TN), it was a shiny smooth wide track.... and my 'love the wheels' husband couldnt see the speed-o-meter go below a 100-120.
In a Malayalam newspaper recently, I saw a cartoon showing the sorry plight of the roads in Kerala [God's own country], and a man comments "The road to heaven is always filled with obstacles". Oh how we live up to our name!!! Three cheers to our govt.
